Boost Mobile and Samsung just launched the Samsung Galaxy Prevail. Boost is one of the two prepaid cellphone carrier of Sprint Wireless along with Virgin Mobile. The introduction of the Samsung Prevail in the Boost line up just spiced up the competition by introducing an affordable Android smartphone by a prepaid carrier.
This new phone by Samsung runs on Boost CDMA network, and is very similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S, except more lower end. The Prevail runs Android Froyo 2.2 with an 800MHz processor, a 3.2-inch HVGA resolution touchscreen display along with a 2-megapixel camera. Note that the camera is lacking flash functionality. In terms of memory, the handset only has an internal storage of 124MB, but memory can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card; note that a 2GB memory card is included with the phone.
Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy Prevail does not come with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface; could it already be the result of Google tightening its grip on manufacturers UI? Nonetheless, the Samsung Galaxy Prevail comes just as a stock android, eventhought a few apps such as Swype, Facebook, Twidroyd are already pre-loaded into the handset. Boost even included free access to the Telenav GPS navigation system.
The Galaxy Prevail is Boost first CDMA Android phone, and as a prepaid smartphone, it will retail at a cost of $179.99. It will be available for purchase in late April with no contract to sign but will only work with Boost’s $50 Monthly Unlimited plan, which includes voice, data, and text messages. Boost will make this deal even better by reducing the 50$ monthly fee by 5$ every six months until it reaches 35$.
