Kaz Hirai, head of Sony’s PlayStation business just released Sony’s next portable gaming device code named “Next Generation Portable” or NGP.
This portable console is packed with technological gadgets; it will have a touch sensitive OLED screen, two thumbsticks, rear touch controls, motion-sensing gyroscopes, front and rear cameras as well as a built in electronic compass.
Aimed to compete directly against Nintendo’s new 3DS, Sony’s NGP is as powerful as a Playstation 3 and will have WiFi and 3G capabilities.
What’s more interesting from this press conference is the shift of mind from Sony, who will allow with the release of its new Playstation Suite non Sony devices to run Sony games. For now we are mainly talking about smartphones and tablets running Android.
Gamers have changed, smartphones and tablets are more and more powerful and should not be disregarded as gaming devices acknowledges Mr Kaz Hirai. The games available from the Playstation Suite will be games from the original PlayStation meeting a minimum of criteria laid out by Sony in order to run properly.
The PlayStation Suite will be limited to Android phones and tablets at the beginning, but there will always be the possibility of introducing it to Apple’s Iphone in the future.
