LG is releasing the world first dual core smartphone with its LG Optimus 2X running Android operating system. This dual core phone will run on an Nvidia chip and offers better performance and enhanced multimedia experience with its double core processors.
The initial launch of the Optimus 2X is set to be at the beginning of January, first in Korea and other countries in Asia followed by Europe. No due date is available for America as of now. Initially, the Optimus 2X will be released with Android 2.2 “Froyo” and will be upgradeable to Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” at a later date.
The Nvidia Tegra 2 chip incorporates a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor that runs at a speed of 1 GHz. It also integrates an ultra-low power (ULP) GeForce GPU for graphics acceleration boasting low power consumption and a video processor for playing video and audio with full frame rate 1080p.
“Dual-core technology is the next leap forward in mobile technology so this is no small achievement to be the first to offer a smartphone utilizing this technology,” said Jong-seok Park, CEO and President of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
The Optimus 2X supports HDMI output, DLNA connection enabling it to display video content at full High-definition quality on an external display.
Other features of the Optimus 2X include 8GB memory, with microSD cards expandable up to 32GB, an 8-megapixel camera and an 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
