The Nexus 7 has become the best selling Android tablet in just 3 months since its introduction this summer. The Google- Asus partnership to produce Google’s flagship device has been very well received by consumers who were able to buy a quality tablet at an affordable price ($199).
In this price range, Amazon is offering the Kindle Fire which has also been well received by consumers thanks to its affordability but also because of the Amazon platform. Things may change in the Android tablet world as Apple is preparing to release an iPad Mini next week to compete against those affordable tablets.
In the meantime, Google is pushing an update to its Jelly Bean OS. The update will first be available to select Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone and the Nexus 7 tablet but as well as the Motorola Xoom tablet.
The update 4.1.2 to Jelly Bean is a minor one and should fix some bugs and increase the speed and performance of Android. Among other changes are enhancements to notification features, sleeker home screen widgets and new NFC features. Sharing pictures will be possible just by tapping two NFC devices together. Other improvements are more aesthetics as the update will look different on whether you are viewing it on a 7-inch tablet, 10-inch tablet or your smartphone.
The first rumored Google Nexus phone to come readily available with this new update is the LG Optimus Nexus G or Nexus 4 and is rumored to debut next week.
