Not too sure what to think about this one – the Kogan Internet TV portal. This Internet TV box from Kogan, features Android 2.2 along with specs like 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and 2GB of data storage. The Kogan Internet TV Portal also comes with HDMI port, Ethernet, USB, Wi-Fi and bluetooth, all this for $159.
The problem is not there, the problem is that the Kogan Internet TV Portal box turns your touchless TV screen into a giant Android 2.2 Froyo device. Touchless is the problem, to control anything on your TV you’ll have to use your remote and good luck with that. The remote shall be use “wiimote” style by pointing on your TV screen for whatever you want to do.
Unfortunately, Kogan did not add much software wise to Android 2.2 Froyo to make it more TV user friendly. To get the best of it, you might as well get the Kogan Android Wireless Keyboard and Trackpad which comes with a touchpad to control your TV pointer.
Overall thought, turning your TV into a giant Android tablet with all the functionalities of a tablet, can be quite fun, especially as it is retailing at an affordable price. But just keep in mind that controlling your Android TV with a remote may not be suitable for everyone. Give it a try first if you can, and you be the judge. Happy streaming!
