Things are getting ugly in the Android tablet world. Apple’s iPad main competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet has been officially banned from the European Union. No countries in Europe except for the Netherlands, are authorized to sell the Samsung tablet.
The ban comes from a temporary injunction by a district court in Dusseldorf, Germany ruling in favor of Apple. The ban has already stopped the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia last week and Apple is hoping to stop it also in the US.
All this started earlier this year when Apple filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement against Samsung. Apple claims that the Korean manufacturer has copied the iPhone and iPad designs and functionalities.
Until a final decision is made, there will be no Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Europe and Australia for now.
That’s just too bad, Apple makes awesome products. Everybody copies them, but still they are always in the lead and rightfully so. On the other hand, Samsung has proven that they were also capable of producing great products, just have a look at the Samsung Galaxy S2.
In the end, hopefully everything will get resolved properly for the benefit of consumers. Or should I keep dreaming?
