Google’s video chat part of next Android version 2.3.4

Apple has Facetime on the Iphone 4, and Google now has Video chat on selected Android devices.
Selected device as unfortunately you’ll need to update to Android Gingerbread 2.3 before you can get this update, and as we all know, not all devices are created equal.

This all comes down to fragmentation in the Android world and the need to wait for updates from networks carrier. So bad news for those who will never get an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, this video chat app wont work on your device.

At the moment, only stock Android phones, Samsung’s Nexus S and soon the Galaxy S2 run Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will have the ability to run Google’s video chat.
This video chat feature works on 3G and on Wi-Fi unlike Apple’s Facetime app.
Google is to release this feature in their next Android update 2.3.4 in the next few weeks.
