When I say Philips, the first thing that comes to my mind is light bulb. But then I realize that I once had a Philips cellphone, actually it was the Philips 960, a nice slide phone.
Unlike other manufacturers though, Philips is not the most active in the Android smartphone. Hopefully this will change, as Philips is preparing to introduce a dual SIM card phone – the W832 Xenium.
This Android smartphone, will have a 4.5 inch qHD display powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor with 4GB of internal storage expandable to 32GB thanks to its microSD card slot. Add to this an 8 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and 3G. The Philips W832 Xenium will have a 2400 mAh battery that should provide up to 11 hours of talk time and 9 hours of web browsing. Now that’s a serious battery. Hopefully it’ll live up to its claim.
Software wise, the Xenium will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Not the latest Android version, but still, a very good version. I just hope that by the time the Xenium gets released that it will still be good.
Philips did not mention any price nor release date for the phone. Hopefully sooner rather than later as things move very quickly in the smartphone world, and you wouldn’t want to release an outdated phone.
