What is the world’s cheapest or let’s say most affordable Android tablet? How about the Aakash 2? At only $21 its a price hard to beat. But wait, there’s a little catch, its available for now only in India, and this special price is for students only. If you want your own copy of this super affordable tablet, it’ll cost you around $80.
But what is the Aakash 2? Successor of the Aakash project, the Aakash 2 is an initiative of the Indian government to give access to all Indian students to an affordable tablet. The original Aakash tablet was priced at $35 but never really took off. It seems like that this time with the Aakash 2 , Indian all across the country will have the chance to own one.
Obviously, at this price you cant expect something as nice as an iPad or Galaxy tablet, but still something decent.
The Aakash 2 is an Android tablet with a 7-inch multi-touch capacitive screen with a 800 x 480 pixels resolution, powered by a 1Ghz Cortex A8 processor with 4GB of data storage expandable to 32GB via micro SD card. It’ll come with 512MB of RAM, Wi-Fi and a USB 2.0 port. The Aakash 2 also comes with a front facing VGA camera, probably not the sharpest, but still not bad.
All this running on Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, not the latest version of Android but still very interesting for a device at this price. I mean for $21, I don’t see where they make a profit, but hey, I wont complain, the cheapest the better, isnt it that all we want? On second thought, not always, but in this case, there’s really not much to lose!
