Since its beginning Android redefined the cellphone world. Now it is redefining the PC world with very affordable computers.
VIA just introduced the APC 8750 a $49 computer board based on Android. The VIA board is not the most powerful computer but with it’s 800 Mhz ARM11 CPU and 512 MB of DDR3 RAM its a cheap way to connect your TV to the Internet. Plus it comes with an HDMI port and 4 USB ports so you can connect a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi dongle.
Add to this 2 GB of NAND flash storage, a GPU card that supports 720p, a 10/100 Ethernet port, microSD slot and VGA port and you’ve got yourself a very affordable Android computer.
The drawback? It runs a yet to be obsolete Android 2.3 Gingerbread rather than the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Hopefully it’ll get an update, eventhough for now it should work just fine. I guess you can’t have it all, at $49 a piece it’s still worth it.
