HP TouchPad, probably the best deal in electronic history. It is also bringing its share of headaches to HP.
Remember that a few HP TouchPad were delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo already installed on it? Well, HP is doing an investigation as to why some consumers were sent a TouchPad with Android. This came after developers trying to port Android onto the HP TouchPad wrote a letter to HP requesting the source code for porting Android as they believe HP is under legal obligations to disclose it.
Phil Robb, a director at HP said,
“As for the Touchpad units that have been allegedly purchased with a version of Android on them, we have begun an internal investigation on this within HP. We have confirmed that HP never authorized the distribution of any version of Android on the HP Touchpad. Regarding your specific request for source code below, I must decline at the present time. HP has never authorized the distribution of any binaries for Android in association with the HP Touchpad.”
I like how Mr Robb said at the present time. This means that eventually they will give us the code? That would be nice, no? $99 for an Android/ WebOS tablet, I know I can’t ask for more.
