It’s almost been a week since the HP TouchPad tablet hype started and there haven’t been any official news yet of a conclusive Android porting on it. All I see is people trying to get their hands onto one of the biggest deal in electronics in a while. I am for a fact still waiting on any news from my order. HP surely didn’t expect such a publicity stunt after announcing the end of its TouchPad tablet.
Regardless, it seems that porting Android onto a TouchPad is possible as one lucky customer found out. Despite rumors that this is a hoax, this customer got himself a brand new HP TouchPad, loaded with Android 2.2 Froyo out of the box. That’s right, it came with Android. Why? No one knows exactly but it could be a demo tablet that HP used for testing and that inadvertently got shipped out.
Until we find out, several teams are working hard on porting Android onto the TouchPad. TouchDroid which got a rough start should hopefully be back on its feet and start working on porting Android 2.2 Froyo onto the HP tablet. Hack N Mod on the other hand is offering money incentive to the first team to successfully port Android.
Even if the video is fake, Android porting to the HP TouchPad should be possible. Its just a matter of time, but what I am really wondering is how well it can be done. Can all the functionalities be ported? Hopefully so, but that may be tough.
