Sony Ericsson has unveiled the follow-up models to its Xperia X10 Mini and Xperia X10 Mini Pro, namely the Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro.
Both handsets run Android 2.3 Honeycomb, and are very similar. The main difference between the two is the slide-out keyboard on the Xperia Mini Pro whereas the Xperia Mini offers the virtual touchscreen keybaord.
At the core of both devices, lies a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, mounted with a 3 inch screen. This is where the term mini is derived, mainly from the size of their screens, which are smaller than the 4 inch+ Samsung Infuse or LG G2x, but remain well within acceptable sizes, just look at Apple’s Iphone.
The Xperia Mini Pro will feature a dual camera, whereas the Xperia Mini will only have one rear 5 megapixel camera.
Featuring HD video recording, the Xperia Mini will be the world’s smallest Android smartphone with this capability.
In a way, one phone is more entertainment oriented, the Xperia Mini, and the other one is more business oriented the Xperia Mini Pro. The latter “comes pre-loaded with Office Suite and McAfee antivirus software, letting consumers manage documents and e-mails instantly and securely while on the move.”
But Sony Ericsson is really enforcing the social network aspect, with a better Facebook integration, music, picture gallery, phone book, calendar sharing on both devices.
A global launch for both devices is set for july of this year.
