Acer announced this week that it is ready to launch its first Android tablet – the Iconia Tab A500.
This Android tablet runs Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and features a 10.1 inch touchscreen. Powered by a 1 GHz dual core Nvidia processor, with 1 GB of RAM and 16 of flash storage, this Android tablet will support high definition 1080p videos. As all Android devices, Flash Adobe should run flawlessly on this jam-packed gaming powerhouse. The Iconia Tab A500 has six-axis motion sensing gyro meter control allowing users a perfect gaming experience. And that’s not all, the Iconia Tab A500 will come with two pre-loaded games, Need for Speed: Shift and Let’s Golf.
Just like Apple’s iPad, the device features two cameras, one front camera and one rear one. But that’s probably where the similarities ends. The Iconia Tab A500 is a little heavier and a little thicker than its main competitor. It is however, more importantly a little cheaper. Selling at a retail price of $449.00, the Acer tablet is the only tablet to sell at a lower price than Apple’s Ipad 2 ($499). The other Android tablet such as Motorola Xoom tablet, sells for 100$ more than the base Ipad 2 at $599. The Iconia Tab A500 is not a threat yet for Apple’s Ipad 2, but it is definitely a serious contender for tablet supremacy, or I should probably say, Google’s Android OS is.
The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is available for pre-order at Best Buy and will be available in stores on April 24.
