US carrier Alltel wireless, is showing that it is getting serious about Android. The popular Google OS is now available on 4 different devices on the Alltel network – the LG Axis, Samsung Gem, HTC Merge and the Motorola Milestone X.
Even thought the LG Axis and Samsung Gem have already been released earlier this year, Alltel wireless is reinforcing the fact that it is now carrying more Android handsets. These handsets are decent Android devices, they are not high end devices and should be sufficient for the common user. The LG Axis features a 3.2 inch touchscreen along with a slide out keyboard and both devices run Android Eclair 2.1.
In the case of the HTC Merge, the loaded operating system is Android Froyo 2.2 in combination with HTC’s Sense user interface. Besides its touchscreen, the HTC Merge also features a horizontal slide out keyboard.
The Motorola Milestone or Droid X (on Verizon) is an aging Android device but is still an excellent handset despite being in the market for over a year now. It features a 4.3inch touchscreen, a 1GHz processor, an 8-megapixel camera, an 8GB internal storage expandable to 40GB via a 32GB MicroSD cards. This Android also runs Android Froyo 2.2.
The introduction of these 4 different handsets made by different manufacturers, should certainly please Alltel customers, who now have more choice than they can handle especially with prices that are practically free. These fine Android phones are now available at Alltel retail stores and online at alltelwireless.com.
