AT&T is set to launch the company’s first 4G smartphone, the Android HTC Inspire. The Inspire will be available for $99 with a two-year contract and will go on sale Feb. 13. That is to be exact, 3 days after Verizon releases the Iphone 4 on its network. Seems like AT&T is trying to get its share of the Android market with this aggressive pricing and with the introduction of at least 20 Android devices to be released this year. This line up includes the Motorola Atrix 4G and the Samsung Infuse 4G.
AT&T will likely subsidize a part of the price in this 99$ deal, as part of a marketing campaign to promote its new and faster HSPA+ network.
The Inspire will be the carrier’s first 4G device, running Android 2.2 on a 1GHz processor, with 4G HSPA+ connectivity. It will have the largest touch screen in the AT&T’s portofolio with an impressive 4.3-inch Super LCD, an 8-megapixel camera with HD video recording, and Dolby Mobile and SRS WOW HD sound. It will come pre-loaded with AT&T Mobile Hotspot for sharing your 4G HSPA+ connection with up to five other WiFi-enabled devices.
The Inspire will also be the first HTC smartphone on a U.S. carrier to offer the new HTC Sense experience. The HTC Sense includes a consolidated view of updates from websites such as Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. It will also be very useful in case you lose or have your phone stolen by allowing you to find exactly on a map its location and send an alert signal even if the phone is on silent mode throught the HTC Sense website. The user can then forward all calls and text messages to a different number and remotely wipe their lost phone.
