Android activations reach 300,000 daily

Carriers are activating Google’s Android devices at a rate of 300,000 per day, according to a Twitter posting released by Google’s Vice President Andy Rubin. This news comes two month after Google CEO Eric Schmidt said that the company had reached the 200,000-per-day milestone.

On the other hand, Apple is activating an estimate of 270,000 Iphones per day. A more accurate comparison should state that Google’s Android OS is really available on a lot of different smartphones thus activating different smartphones, whereas Apple is really just selling a specific device, the Iphone.

The announcement was made after Google announced its new smartphone, the Google Nexus S, manufactured by Samsung. This new smartphone runs the newest version of Android (Gingerbread) and includes a new technology for payments through NFC technology.
