Acer’s tablets – enough to dethrone the Ipad?

Acer Computer is getting serious in the tablet markets, with an expected release of at least 4 Ipad alike tablets in early 2011. Tablets size will range from 4.8 inches to an estimated 14 inches and run on Windows 7 tablet or android devices.

Acer CEO, Gianfranco Lanci commented his approach was to counter the one-size-fits-all mentality, as consumers had shown that they wanted a greater choice in screen sizes and operating systems.

A quick overview of the Windows 7 tablet, also known as the Iconia with its double 14 inch screen tablet is going to stir up the competition. This double screen format allows the use of one screen as a virtual keyboard, while the other can be used as a photo display library or for viewing HD video. The Iconia is an Intel based Core i5 with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, integrated Intel graphics, a 750GB hard drive, HDMI and VGA ports.

Android tablets will range from 4.8 inches to 7 inches and 10.1 inches.

The 4.8 inches model has a screen resolution of 1024×480, offering high-speed connectivity via HSDPA and WiFi for data connection. Two cameras will be available one of 8Mp and another 2Mp cameras, including LED flash and Bluetooth 3.0.

The 7 inches Android tablet has a 1280×800 resolution touch screen, HDMI port and HD 1080p capability. It has a front high definition camera that allows its users to take pictures as well as having video chats.

The 10.1-inch Android model features a 12800×800 resolution touch screen, HD 1080p over HDMI and Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. It also includes a 5MP camera and a built in gyroscope for gaming.
