Motorola restructuration plan could not ignore Google’s Android devices. Sanjay Jha, the company’s chief, revealed yesterday that it plans to market an Android phone directly to consumers through Google’s new online store, in the same way HTC’s Nexus One smartphone is sold.

Motorola has already launched several Android devices such as the Droid (Milestones), the MotoROI (XT701) among popular ones which are selling well in the United States and worldwide. Motorola`s 2009 fourth quarter results show a rebound, which are partly due to their new smartphones line-up which includes many Android devices.

“We are pleased with the meaningful progress we made in 2009 in further improving our cost structure and strengthening the operations of the Mobile Devices business. Our first Android smartphone devices have been very well received. We look forward to broadening our handset portfolio in 2010.” said Jha in a statement.

Motorola is looking to strengthen its position by introducing at least 20 smartphone devices, of which one, will be sold directly through Google. Device name and specifications have yet to be revealed.
