Rogers Magic 911 software issue

HTC-Magic

Last week, we found out Rogers Dream turning into a nightmare, unfortunately, it seems like this is also happening the Magic handset as well. The issue, is the same, when GPS function is enable, 911 emergency calls cannot be made. The temporary fix is simple, just disable the GPS function until a software update is available.

What is more disappointing is that Roger’s Magic was supposed to be THE upgrade for Dream users since the Dream’s Android version is not upgradeable. Rogers has put its Dream to Magic upgrade on hold since the release of this new 911 issue on the Magic handset.

Here’s Rogers official statement:

“Rogers/Fido service message: URGENT 911 Calls: Please disable GPS location on your HTC Magic device to ensure all 911 calls complete. HTC is urgently working on a software upgrade and we will provide details shortly so you can re-enable GPS. Instructions: Select Menu – Select Location – Uncheck
Enable GPS Satellite”

In the meantime, an unofficial fix is available, by rooting your Dream/ Magic handset and installing CyanogenMod
