Android 3.0 Honeycomb is creating some headache to tablet manufacturers.
Acer in particular, is delaying the launch of its Acer Iconia A100 7-inch Android tablet from May-June to August-September.
The reason? Supply problems? Actually the problem is due to be incompatibility between Android 3.0 Honeycomb and 7-inches tablets. Honeycomb was originally designed for 10-inch tablets, porting it to 7-inch tablets such as the Acer Iconia A100 is creating incompatibilities with some applications. Google is reportedly working on it.
Other manufacturers have already launched in the market 7-inches tablets. However no one have released a 7-inch Honeycomb tablet. Samsung’s 7-inch Galaxy Tab is running Android 2.2 Froyo, whereas HTC’s Flyer is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
The closest manufacturer in the race to the 7-inch Honeycomb tablet, is Viewsonic with the ViewPad 7x due in June.
