Motorola Xoom tablet gets Honeycomb update to 3.1 on Telstra Australia

The Motorola Xoom has been available since last month from Telstra running Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

Good news for those who were turned off by some critics regarding bugs and software issues with the 3.0 Honeycomb Xoom; the update should be out in July. In fact, Motorola announced an over-the-air (OTA) update of the Xoom device in July.

This update to Android 3.1 Honeycomb should clear out some bugs the Xoom has been facing since its release on Honeycomb 3.0. One basic but important feature this update will bring is the ability to use the microSD card reader.

Other features include full Adobe Flash Player support, Bluetooth handsets chat supports, USB supports for peripheral devices such as keyboards and cameras.
It will also include a file manager app to go through your tablets storage. All these upgrades sounds like basic stuff, but this shows how we shouldn’t take these things for granted.

Motorola Xoom users surely will have a much better experience once these updates gets rolled in.

The Honeycomb update to 3.1 is for Australian carrier Telstra. No word on Optus carrier has been released so far. Hopefully it should also follow the same path shortly.

You missed the key point, on the Telstra page it listed that the SD slot will be enabled with this 3.1 update. This isn’t the case with the USA version that got 3.1, now is it a typo is aus getting the microsd slot enabled first!?

That’s correct Level380. Telstra is enabling the microSD card reader with the update to Android 3.1. For some reason, the US version of the Motorola Xoom did not have the microSd card reader enabled despite the Android 3.1 update. Why is that? I have absolutely no clue.
So yes, Australia rejoice, the Telstra update for the Motorola Xoom to Android 3.1 will enable the microSD card reader.
