Malware still present in the Android Market.

Eternal malware, that’s what Android users are unfortunately facing.

Android-virus

This week again, a modified version of the DroidDream malware made its apparition on the Android Market.
The DroidDream Light was found on twenty six applications hosted by six different accounts. Google immediately removed the malware and shut down the six accounts.

An estimated 30,000 to 120,000 users have downloaded the modified apps and are infected with the malware. The malware has first been identified by an app developer who was surprised to see another version of his app being distributed by another party. After investigation it was found that the modified app was being grafted with the DroidDream Light malware.

The DroidDream Light works the same way DroidDream does. The malware can be activated with a phone call. It will then contact a remote server and send the device IMEI, Model, SDK Version and information about installed programs. The DroidDream Light can download and install unwanted programs but needs the users permission to do so. The DroidDream on the other hand could do it on its own without warning the user.
