Samsung unveiled the revamped version of its next Galaxy Tab during the Google I/O conference in San Francisco.
Well, to be more accurate, Google offered all 5000 attendees a free updated version of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1.
This new version is now smaller and lighter than the Ipad 2 as promised by Lee Don-joo, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile division this spring.
The new Galaxy Tab is now 1.24 pounds (565 grams) versus the Ipad 2 at 1.32 pounds (599 grams). In terms of thinckness, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now as thin as the Ipad 2 with only 0.34 inches.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 also has a slightly larger screen with a slightly higher resolution with 1,280×800 versus the iPad’s 1,024×768.
Overall, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 is indeed lighter, bigger than the Ipad 2. But can we say better? In the current Android tablet world, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be the contender against Apple’s Ipad 2.
Scheduled to launch June 8, with Android 3.0 Honeycomb at first, it will be interesting to see if there will finally be an Android tablet that can measure to the Ipad.
