In terms of tablets all we hear is the Ipad 2, the Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab… but have you heard of the Asus EEE Pad Transformer?
This Android powered 3.0 Honeycomb tablet is apparently selling like hotcakes, so fast that Asus cant provide enough tablets due to the large demand. Its true that at a retail price of $399 for 16GB and $499 for 32GB, this tablet is among the cheapest one.
But is it really a good value?
For this price, you get a 10.1 inch Android tablet with 1GB of RAM, 16GB ROM, a NVIDIA Tegra 2 graphics card, a 1.2 Megapixel webcam and Wi-Fi capabilities; and lets not forget the unique optional keyboard station for an extra $150.
Honestly, a pretty fair deal, but it seems like the low shipments since its launching date of April 26, caused a shortage of EEE Pad Transformer on the market and prices are now artificially inflated on Ebay or local classifieds such as Craigslist.
ASUS claims that it can only ship 10,000 devices per month due to hardware shortages; most likely the touchscreen as it was also the case for Apple’s Ipad 2.
Production should go up to as high as 300,000 units per month and the shortage should resume in mid-june. For the moment, all retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy and Target are taking backorders as the device is sold out everywhere.
